Description

Discover the best Salisbury steak recipe with rich mushroom gravy. This hearty, comforting dish is perfect for family dinners.

Ingredients

  • Ground Beef: 1.5 pounds
  • Bread Crumbs: 1/2 cup
  • Egg: 1 large
  • Onion Soup Mix: 1 packet or 1/2 cup finely chopped onions
  • Milk: 1/2 cup
  • Salt and Pepper: To taste
  • Mushrooms: 1 cup, sliced
  • Garlic: 2 cloves, minced
  • Worcestershire Sauce: 2 tablespoons
  • Ketchup: 1 tablespoon
  • Butter: 2 tablespoons
  • Flour: 2 tablespoons
  • Beef Broth: 2 cups

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, bread crumbs, egg, onion soup mix, and milk. Mix well and season with salt and pepper.
  2. Shape the mixture into 4-6 oval-shaped patties.
  3. Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 3 minutes per side, until browned. Remove and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, add 1 tablespoon of oil. Sauté the sliced mushrooms for 5 minutes, then add minced garlic and cook for another minute.
  5. Add butter to the skillet. Once melted, sprinkle flour over the mushrooms and stir to combine. Cook for 2-3 minutes.
  6. Gradually whisk in beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and ketchup. Bring to a simmer and cook until the gravy thickens, about 5-7 minutes.
  7. Return the patties to the skillet, spoon gravy over them, cover, and simmer on low heat for 15 minutes.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, add a splash more Worcestershire sauce to the gravy.
  • Ensure the patties are well combined to prevent them from falling apart during cooking.
